A few minutes of preparation makes a big difference to the finished result. Here's what to check:
When the print dialog opens, set the page scaling to "Actual Size" or "100%". Do NOT use "Fit to Page" or "Shrink to Printable Area" — these will scale the page down slightly and your hole punch guide will no longer align correctly.
A4: Print directly on A4 paper. Select A4 in your printer settings. This is the simplest option for UK users.
A5: You can print on A5 paper if your printer supports it. Alternatively, print 2-up on A4: in your print settings, choose "Multiple pages per sheet" → 2 pages. Then cut down the centre with a craft knife and metal ruler.
Print on US Letter paper (8.5×11″) at 2 pages per sheet, then cut. Or print directly on pre-cut half-letter paper if your printer supports it. Set your print settings to US Letter paper size.
These smaller sizes are best printed 4-up on A4:
A metal ruler and craft knife give much cleaner edges than scissors.
Print on US Letter paper or A4 at Actual Size. You will need a Happy Planner punch (available from Amazon and craft stores) or take pages to a print shop for professional disc punching. The hole guide on each page shows the 11 disc positions.
Pages printing slightly too small: Check you have "Actual Size" selected, not "Fit to Page."
Colours look washed out: Try printing at "High Quality" or "Best" in your printer settings.
Lines not printing: The ruled lines are very fine (0.5pt). If they're not showing, increase print quality to "Best."
PDF won't open properly: Download Adobe Acrobat Reader (free) rather than using a browser PDF viewer.
